Rationale
  • To promote the goal of scientific literacy for all by providing a journal of science and technology written by students, for students and the wider education community.
  • To provide opportunities for students to communicate their school-based science and technology experiences with peers and others beyond the confines of their classroom or school.
  • To motivate students to produce high quality schoolwork.
Goals
  • To produce a quarterly print-based journal and website that will showcase grade 7-12/OAC student activities in Science and Technology, in either English or French. Occasionally, special issues will feature articles submitted by students from across the country, and from around the world.
  • To publish student-generated feature articles, essays, lab and fieldwork reports, artwork, creative writing, book and website reviews, and career profiles produced through school-based activities. A committee composed of educators, scientists/technologists, and students will review the submissions and recommend articles for publication.
  • To make the journal available to elementary and high school students, classroom teachers, faculty of education professors and students, board of education personnel, members of the scientific and technology community, and parents. The journal is expected to generate subscription revenues on a cost-recovery basis. Eye On Science is a non-profit enterprise.
  • To create and maintain an Eye On Science website (www.eyeonscience.org) that will provide general information and submission instructions to students and teachers, and, in future, will act as an e-journal where additional student work may be published.
  • To create an Eye On Science Student Awards/Scholarship Program that will reward outstanding contributions to Eye On Science.
